Stephen Foster

Stephen Foster image coming soon

Stephen Foster first studied glass at Birmingham (Ceramics and Glass BA) then at the International Glass Centre in the West Midlands. Stephen has gone on to create a number of commissioned works for both sculptural and functional pieces. In 2001 he was awarded the Broadfield House Glass Museum glass-blowing scholarship studio and was the first applicant to be awarded an extended second year – this is where he perfected his trademark surface techniques.

Along with creating beautiful, innovative, and exciting contemporary hand-blown glass, he is also teaching glass blowing at Dudley College.

Coral Pools

Many of the skills/techniques Stephen has learned over the 20+ years of working with glass seem to manifest in this present body of work. Creating otherworldly corals with beautiful complex murine tiles. Battuto creates surface undulations and ripples of dancing light under the sea on the coral below. A splash of mother-of-pearl iridescence. Murine plunge cup forming a net capturing and holding the moment. Stephen is not trying to copy nature but to attempt to capture a sense of nature, a calm timeless natural rhythm, a place where your mind runs quiet in depths.
